Reinstate the Ban of Trans-Gender Soliders

The Obama administration took significant steps to allow transgender individuals to serve openly in the U.S. military. In 2016, then-Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced a policy change that allowed transgender individuals to serve openly without fear of discharge due to their gender identity. This policy also permitted transgender service members to receive medical care and begin the process of gender transition while serving.

We call on the President of the United States to reinstate the Department of Defense (DoD) policy banning transgender employees. This would reverse the policies put into place under the Obama Administration that currently allow transgender individuals to serve openly in the military.

We believe this ban should be reinstated based on the following grounds:

  1. Military Readiness and Unit Cohesion: Military effectiveness relies on unit cohesion, readiness, and minimal distractions. Policies accommodating transgender personnel introduce complications, such as extended medical leave or unique requirements for specific training, that affect unit performance.

  2. Medical Readiness and Costs: The financial and logistical implications of providing medical treatments related to gender transition, such as hormone therapy or surgeries, should not be allowed and American taxpayers should not be liable for potential costs impacting military resources and the readiness of personnel.

  3. Focus on Mission: The military should focus exclusively on mission-critical functions without getting involved in social issues. Reinstate the policy on the grounds that all decisions should prioritize operational efficiency.

  4. National Security Perspective: State that policies should support the best interests of national security and be based on evidence about the impact on force effectiveness, using data from military studies or expert opinions on military sociology.

  5. Improve Morale: Transgenderism is not normal. It should not be normalized. Countries like Peru have declared transgenderism a mental illness. The acceptance of transgenderism by the Department of Defense directly impacts the morale of soldiers.
